106 years ago, two days after the proclamation of Latvia’s independence, 52 well-known Latvian doctors, lawyers, engineers, and public figures established the organization Latvian Red Cross. Initially, the LatRC’s mission was to provide assistance to wounded and sick soldiers, prisoners of war, affected civilians, as well as refugees and orphans.
Today, the LatRC is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in Latvia, covering the entire country. It offers a wide range of social support services, assists Ukrainian civilians in their integration into Latvian society, provides essential first aid training, and promotes health awareness activities. Additionally, the LatRC actively participates in various local and international projects to support the most vulnerable members of Latvian society.
In its daily communication, the LatRC uses the slogan “Together We Can Help!” – they are more than just words, it is a powerful representation of the belief that only through teamwork and mutual support can the LatRC deliver assistance to those in need.
The LatRC is also a full-fledged member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Every day, it collaborates with colleagues from other countries to strengthen communities at both the local and international levels, promoting shared responsibility, humanitarian values, and tolerance for those facing hardships.
